“Perfectly blends the glories of nature with country luxury and superb food and wine.”
Mosaic Farm is a luxury guest retreat on the Hermanus Lagoon with exquisite views of the Overberg Mountains and adjacent to the Walker Bay Beach and Nature Reserve. We provide our guests with enchanting accommodations and activities for embracing the natural wonders of the Whale Coast and Cape Floral Kingdom.
Mosaic is owned by Breese and Kathryn Johnson, from Tennessee USA, and managed by South African conservationist, Justin Boshoff. In 2002, the property was overrun by alien vegetation and the only buildings standing were in a complete state of ruin, including the 1892 Stanford Spookhuis. Since then, invasive plants have been cleared, buildings restored and new buildings built to provide a retreat, between mountain and sea, for all to enjoy.
Accommodation and Facilities:
Our Lagoon Lodge captures the essence of tranquility and privacy in six safari-style thatch-roof chalets for 12 - 16 guests. Woven into an ancient Milkwood grove, stone, glass, and natural materials from Mosaic were blended to let the outdoors and fresh air in. Each suite has luxurious beds under netting, a large romantic tub, outdoor shower and wooden deck with spectacular mountain views.
A heated pool overlooks a bird sanctuary and mountains, and is the perfect place from which to witness the exquisite colors of the sun setting and the glorious expanse of the star-filled South African night sky. Two beautiful stone self catering cottages are also available, with meal options.
Our fine dining restaurant in the 1892 Stanford Spookhuis presents a fusion of classic and contemporary South African Cuisine and has a fabulous wine cellar. Organic produce and herbs are gathered daily from our garden, bread is baked each day, fresh fish is ordered in regularly from the local harbours, and select meats are custom cut at a local butchery. Picnics are served under the Milkwood trees on the edge of the Hermanus Lagoon. Guest can also enjoy our library and conference room.
Activity highlights:
• Open-air 4x4 trips to the beach for whale-watching, picnic lunches and sundowners.
• Quad-biking through 933 hectares of fynbos to high points with 360 degree views.
• Kayaking to a beautiful sandy beach on the ocean or up through the Klein River.
• Guided bird watching along 4 km of lagoon frontage and up limestone ridges.
• Shark cage diving and boat –based whale watching in Gansbaai.
